Entrance

As he neared the entrance of the cave, the prince was a bit nervous and scared for he had been told that the witch was very cunning and could attack from anywhere and in any form.

The witch had been waiting for this moment for ages and she was delighted now that, finally, she would free of the curse.

She had used all her deviousness to entice the prince; he could not go back without fulfilling her wish.

Prince overcame his fear and nervousness for he knew he had the power to kill every witch on the earth.

‘He would be the most powerful king and I would be the prettiest woman on earth if only he would wed me,” the witch was lost in her day dream when the prince pierced her heart with his magic sword.

Death of the Hills

One by one every tree was felled and the wood was transported to different places all over the country.

One after another, new buildings cropped up on the land denuded of its green cover.

But the hills were displeased for they loved the trees and hated the concrete structures that were erupting like blisters everywhere.

One by one the hills began to fall sick and began to die.

One late evening, thousands of houses perished and hundreds of people died and the river coursing through the hills laughed in vindictive pleasure.

Spoiled

“Don’t you worry, I very well know what a young boy wants and I will do my best to fulfil my son’s wishes and most certainly those which I could not fulfil when I was his of age.”

He looked at his wife, eyes glowing with pride; not knowing that his father was not asleep and was overhearing their talk.

His father did feel the words floating around him. He knew that in his own time he too had done his best to fulfil every wish of his son; of course he didn’t want his only son to get spoiled.

“Where did I go wrong?” father tried to hide himself from the surrounding chill in the warmth of his old quilt.

Abandon

“Can I come with you? Would it be proper?” she asked, almost nonchalantly, when he was about to leave.

He looked at her; he was slowly realizing that she was a puzzle which he could not unravel.

“You very well know that the invitation is for both of us; you did not want to come; you were adamant; I had told you that it would be very embarrassing for me if you were not with me, but still you declined.”

“I wanted you to insist but you did not; you chose to abandon me; you are just waiting for an opportunity but I won’t let you flirt with those….”

He left, wondering, did he ever love her or did she ever love him; outside, it was all foggy.

Dismay

“It is a brilliant idea,” he almost shouted seeing a glimmer of hope in what his father had just said.
But his father was taken aback by his exuberance and kept looking at him with thoughtful, nay suspicious eyes.
“What do mean by a brilliant idea, you must have misunderstood me?”
“You know it’s the only fervent desire I have and I am willing to accept any condition you may wish to lay.”
“I do not approve of her….never… no, I still hate pets,” father said, ignoring the dismay swelling in his young eyes.

Irritation

He knew that he was no longer a kid; he was almost as big and strong as his mother.

But the mother would only treat him like a kid and chided him as if he was always in the harm’s way.

“How many times have I told you that such manoeuvres are not for the kids to try?” she said in an unrestrained irritation as he landed near her, brimming with pride, after a soul stirring flight.

He thought of his friends who had already flown to the distant island.

He looked at his mother with bleary eyes; he was dreaming of audacious flights he would try in the company of his reckless friends.

First Flight

It was his first flight and he knew that if failed he would land on the rocks below and die.
He had been preparing for this flight for many weeks; nay, he had been dreaming and preparing almost from the time he opened his eyes.
He looked at the blue sky above and the deep blue sea below; both were just magnificent.
His father had already taken off and now he was gliding majestically like an ace flier.
As he took off he felt a lump in his throat and recalled what his father had once said, “Respect the fear rising in your heart, don’t be afraid of it, and it will make you an ace flier.”
