The Top Window

The young man entered the lane nervously. For a few moments he was scared to look at the house. And when he did raise his eyes, his knees became weak.
Nothing had changed and that hurt him harder.
He kept looking at one top window.
Even today he was standing at the same spot. But that day, he had been looking at a beautiful bird sitting on top of the house. Suddenly, to his utter shock, someone fell from one of the top windows. She was his mother.
He never learnt the fate of his father; but he rarely missed him.
